ROGUE ONE is Disney’s Latest Billion Dollar Grosser, MOANA Sails Past $500 Million Worldwide

As expected, Rogue One – the first standalone Star Wars spinoff – has grossed more than a billion at the world wide box office. As reported by Forbes, the Star Wars prequel passed the $1 billion mark this past weekend, with $512.2 million coming from North America alone. Rogue One previously cemented 2016 as Disney’s biggest year at the box office ever, with collective grosses from such worldwide smash hits as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Zootopia, The Jungle Book, Captain America: Civil War, Finding Dory and Doctor Strange.

Though The Jungle Book fell just shy of a billion, Zootopia, Finding Dory and Captain America: Civil War all passed the benchmark, with $1.023b, $1.027b and $1.15 billion, respectively. (Captain America: Civil War remains the highest grossing 2016 release). At $1.011b, Rogue One will “likely fall short” of the latest Captain America film, but it’s their 13th film to gross more than one billion since 2006.
